0003 -- snow day tea

Today I'm snowed in, with plenty of housework to do & readings of both the academic and leisurely persuasions piling up, but all I can bring myself to do is listen to music & drink delicious teas.

Yogi Tea is one of my favorite brands, both because the tea is delightful (& varied, there are so many options) and because of the uplifting tags attached to the tea bags.

This one in particular - we are spiritual beings having a human experience - reminded me of a friend as well as my own unending curiosity regarding what it means to be human, so I snapped a quick shot on my camera phone and now I'm sharing it with you.

Enjoy the snow day, northeast!

0002 -- sometimes I make fattening things

These last few weeks have been full of cooking for me. I guess that’s what a super long winter break will do to a girl with a crock pot, six times as many pots & pans as people in living in the apartment, and the giantest kitchen she’s ever seen in New York.

(blurry proof of the aforementioned giantest kitchen ever)

So. what have I been making? (Unfortunately I’m missing photos of every. single. thing. I’ve cooked, so this will just be a laundry list, perhaps with recipes posted later?)

On New Year’s eve, a friend threw a party at his apartment on the UWS & I had the honor of doing all the cooking. I had two crock pots going, and was able to make cheesy spinach & artichoke dips, as well as my/my cousin’s famous dip. It has no name, but is easily the most unhealthy thing ever, as you will soon see.

The Dip

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 large block Velveeta cheese
  • 1 large jar of mild salsa
  • 1 can cream of chicken soup

Making it is easy — brown the beef with desired seasonings, drain. Cube the cheese. Add it all to a crock pot and cook on high for an hour or two. It’s ready when the cheese is melted, and that depends on your crock pot, really. Serve with tortilla chips!

As you can see, it’s really, really disgusting. But I never said I was the healthiest person, did I? Then again I didn’t say I was the least healthy person, either; the boys I lived with last year would eat the leftovers in buns, kind of like a cheesy, salsa-y sloppy joe. Disgusting, I say. But kind of justified — the dip is delicious, especially when piping hot.

I think that’s enough food-talk for now. It might be best to talk about my loaded baked potato soup in another entry, as well as the chocolate stout cupcakes with caramel frosting that averaged out to about a tablespoon of butter per cupcake. This entry is fat enough.

0001 -- introductions are in order

Hello, I am Chels & I do entirely too many things. This is my attempt to put those things in one place.

Consequentially, this will be a kitchen blog, a beer drinker’s blog, a photographer’s blog, a science nerd’s blog, a blogger’s blog, a former English major’s blog, a cat owner’s blog, an apartment porn blog, a music blog, an I’ve-been-living-in-New-York-all-boyfriendless blog. And I don’t anticipate this list to grow any shorter as the posts go on.
